Since Eurobike 2024, AMFLOW and DJI have been the talk of the town. The AMFLOW PL Carbon e-MTB, which comes equipped with DJI’s brand-new Avinox motor system, boasts impressive specs and belongs to a new generation of e-mountain bikes. We’ll tell you whether it lives up to the high expectations and whether it survived our tough testing sessions.
The AMFLOW PL Carbon eMTB with DJI Avinox motor system caused a stir at Eurobike 2024, and has since become the most discussed topic amongst the hottest eMTBs and most exciting motor systems. The newly-founded bike brand was unveiled at the start of Eurobike 2024 in Frankfurt alongside the motor system. For the time being, AMFLOW only offer the PL Carbon e-mountainbike, which aims to strike a unique balance between performance, range, system weight, and clever software features. It generates 160/150 mm of travel (f/r) and relies on a full carbon frame, which can be configured as a full 29er or a mullet bike with a smaller 27.5” rear wheel.
Drone colossus DJI provides the motor system, which delivers an impressive torque of up to 120 Nm and 1,000 watts peak power, drawing its power from either a 600 Wh or bigger 800 Wh battery. The AMFLOW comes in two different variants, the Carbon and Carbon Pro flagship model. We tested the latter, which, in combination with the big 800 Wh battery, tips the scales at a surprisingly light 20.3 kg in size L.
The 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon in detail
The AMFLOW PL Carbon stands out from the crowd with an organic design language and flowing lines. The shock sits right under the top tube and merges in seamlessly with the seat stays. Contrary to the current trend, the cables aren’t routed internally through the headset but disappear into the frame through conventional cable ports on the steerer tube. However, this doesn’t affect the bike’s clean appearance and makes it easier for DIY mechanics to service their bike. The black paint finish rounds off the AMFLOW’s elegant look, with golden accents complementing the FOX Factory components.
Alongside the striking look, the AMFLOW features several practical features. One of these is the tool mount on the bottom of the top tube, which allows you to secure trail essentials such as a spare inner tube and tire levers directly to the frame.
A generously sized chainstay protector prevents paint chips and chain slap. A rubber cover at the transition between the main frame and swingarm prevents dirt and debris from accumulating in the gap, while a chunky TPU plate shields the down tube against stray rocks.
The DJI Avinox Motor System of the 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro
At the heart of the AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro lies a DJI Avinox mid-drive motor system, which is integrated seamlessly into the bike’s frame silhouette. In the special Boost mode, it churns out up to 120 Nm of torque and 1,000 watts peak power, while in the normal mode, it delivers 105 Nm and 850 watts. On paper, DJI outshine their competitors Bosch and Shimano, both of which offer 85 Nm of torque and 600 watts peak power with their comparable motors. The DJI Avinox motor of the AMFLOW PL Carbon draws its power from either a 600 Whor 800 Wh battery. The entry-level Carbon model is only available with the bigger 800 Wh battery, while the Pro top model can be configured with both. Regardless of the configuration you choose, the battery is permanently integrated into the downtube and can’t be removed for external charging.
The charging port is conveniently located on the seat tube, directly above the motor. The cover is easy to close and provides good haptic feedback. The battery can be charged either with the standard charger or DJI’s High-Performance charger. According to the manufacturer, the latter cuts the charging time in half, bringing the large 800 Wh battery from 0 to 100% in about 3 hours. We had the opportunity to test the charging speed of the High-Performance Charger before our test rides, and in our case, it bumped up the battery level by around 30% in just 30 minutes. Additionally, the remaining charging time is shown on the bike’s display – a very practical feature!
The DJI Avinox motor system is paired with a 2-inch OLED display integrated into the top tube, which ensures good readability. The responsive touchscreen allows you to swipe effortlessly through the various screens, just like a smartphone. Even when splashed with water from our bottles or when operated with bike gloves, the display remained fully functional. In addition to the usual data like speed, riding modes, and battery charge status, the display shows a wealth of riding information and features many cool connectivity functions. Through the extensive app, not only can you customise the display’s appearance, but you can also adjust various aspects of the motor system’s riding modes. DJI impressively demonstrates how to develop a user-friendly and highly functional app.
While riding, the motor system is controlled in a rather unconventional way using two wireless handlebar remotes, which are mounted on the left and right hand side of the handlebars. The left remote is used to switch between riding modes and to activate the Walk and Boost modes, while the right remote lets you to scroll through the display windows on the top tube without having to take your hands off the handlebars. The minimalist remotes have a satisfying feel and don’t disrupt the bike’s tidy look.
The spec of our 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro test bike
As already mentioned, we tested the AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro flagship model. The bike’s luxurious appearance is rounded off by a FOX Factory suspension with fancy Kashima coating, which provides countless adjustment options and delivers a tremendous performance on the trail. The suspension consists of a 36mm fork with the new GRIP X2 damper and a matching FLOAT X Factory air shock, which controls 150 mm of travel at the rear. FOX also supply the 175 mm Transfer Factory dropper post, which is on the short side for a modern eMTB in size L. For a bike in this category and size, a long-travel dropper post would be more suitable and offer more freedom of movement.
Four-piston MAGURA MT7 brakes with 203 mm rotors front and rear provide powerful, reliable deceleration. Shifting is taken care of by an electronic SRAM X0 Eagle Transmission drivetrain that delivers butter-smooth, precise gear shifts. A practical feature: the rear derailleur draws its power directly from the main battery, meaning that you don’t have to charge an additional battery before riding.
For the co*ckpit, AMFLOW rely on their in-house components, combining an 800 mm Enduro carbon handlebar and 35 mm Enduro stem. The manufacturer also relies on their in-house components for the wheels, combining an AMFLOW HMC carbon wheelset and MAXXIS tires, with an ASSEGAI in the puncture-prone EXO casing at the front and a DISSECTOR in the more robust EXO+ casing at the rear –both in the harder MaxxTerra rubber compound. For an eMTB in this class, we would recommend upgrading the front tire to the more durable EXO+ casing, and while you’re at it, switching to the softer MaxxGrip compound. Mean shredders and heavy riders should consider running a rear tire in the tougher Doubledown casing and with a slightly more aggressive tread pattern for more uphill traction.
Other spec options of the 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon
Alongside the Carbon Pro variant, AMFLOW also offer the Carbon version, which comes equipped with a FOX Performance suspension. This consists of a 36 fork and matching FOX FLOAT air shock, which can’t quite match the outstanding performance and adjustability of the Factory components you get with the Pro variant. Shifting is taken care of by a cable-operated, 12-speed SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain, while MAGURA MT5 four-piston brakes with 203 mm rotors do stopping duties. Moreover, the more affordable Carbon model comes with AMFLOW’s in-house alloy wheels rather than a carbon wheelset.
The geometry of the 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon
The AMFLOW PL Carbon is available in four sizes, M to XXL and relies on a modern yet not too extreme geometry. It combines a moderately slack 64.5° head angle and average 445 mm chainstays, which don’t grow with the frame size. However, the seat tube in size L is on the longer side, limiting freedom of movement in combination with the shorter dropper post. Unfortunately, smaller riders are left empty handed with the AMFLOW.

The 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro on the trail
We first had the opportunity to test the AMFLOW PL Carbon for a few hours at the Eurobike event on the Feldberg near Frankfurt. The initial impressions were impressive, and it was from the beginning that we had to ride this eMTB for a longer period to thoroughly test all its features. Since then, we’ve pushed the AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro to its limits, both on our home trails and at the bike park, while at the same time challenging its climbing capabilities on the toughest uphills.
But let’s start from the top! As soon as you swing your leg over the saddle, the AMFLOW places you in a comfortable, upright pedalling position that allows you to embark on epic backcountry adventures without having to book yourself in with a chiropractor the following day. On steep climbs, you’ll have to actively weight the front wheel to keep it tracking. Despite its power assistance, the DJI Avinox motor ensures a natural riding experience, allowing you to conquer even the longest climbs without breaking a sweat. However, the shallow-profiled rear tire struggles to fully transfer the motor’s power to the ground, especially on loose forest ground. An e-mountain bike with this much power doesn’t need a fast-rolling tire. With an upgrade to a more robust tire with a deeper tread, we managed to set new records in our uphill challenges.
When gravity takes over, you’re integrated nicely between the wheels. The AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro really shines on flowing trails, where it puts a massive grin on your face. The firm suspension helps generate huge amounts of speed and makes it easy to pump your way through rollers and berms. At the same time, the suspension offers enough support to bail you out with botched landings. However, on loose and wet terrain, the rear tire reaches its limits and, in combination with the firm suspension, struggles to maintain grip at times. This requires a vigilant riding style and a great deal of physical effort, so we recommend upgrading to tires with a more aggressive tread pattern and softer rubber compound. When the trail gets rough, the integrated riding position and high front end inspire huge amounts of confidence, encouraging even beginners to keep their finger off the brakes. The AMFLOW PL Carbon performs well in every aspect.
Who should take a closer look at the 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro?
One thing’s clear: The AMFLOW PL Carbon is the right choice if you want an e-mountainbike that stands out from the crowd and quickly becomes the talk of the trail, both on and off it. Connectivity enthusiasts will be delighted with the extensive app and its many features. Anyone looking for a lightweight eMTB with powerful motor support should definitely take a closer look at the AMFLOW!
Our conclusion about the 2025 AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro
We eagerly anticipated the test of the AMFLOW PL Carbon Pro, and our expectations were high. We were not disappointed. AMFLOW delivered a well-executed eMTB with the PL Carbon. While there are still some minor weaknesses in the spec, it impresses with solid trail performance and intuitive handling. But the really cool thing about the AMFLOW is the DJI motor system, which is second to none with its driving performance and extensive connectivity features.
